NYC Day 4
•Breakfast at Angelina’s (soooo cute!)
•One Times Square ball
•Rooftop bus tour of Upper Manhattan
•Central Park rickshaw tour
•Lost my status of “tour guide” when I got us lost in Central Park as I was attempting not to pee my pants and it led us to the inside of the Central Park Precinct. So while being inside an NYC police station wasn’t on the original itinerary, I made it happen. (I still blame my hysterectomy on this entire experience.)
•Strawberry Fields
•Boathouse
•Bethesda Terrace
•Bridge of Love
•Got caught in a flock of pigeons in Central Park and felt like the bird lady in “Home Alone 2”
•Cocktails at The Plaza
•Made friends with The Plaza bar manager, and she surprised me with my favorite dessert, macaroons
•Witnessed FDNY put out a fire at The Sherry-Netherland
•Accidentally wandered into the live coverage of the news reporter for the fire at The Sherry-Netherland. (I instinctively waved like an idiot in the background.)
•Tiffany’s, where Paige managed to get herself a security guard, private room, and tried on a $216,000 ring (I just felt lucky enough to be able to use the fancy toilet paper. )
•”Window-shopped” Fifth Avenue
•Attempted to make small talk with one stranger a day to be “Iowa nice” and struck out every single day by picking people who don’t speak English. (Goal for myself: Learn a few new languages.)
•Paige bossed us around the Upper East Side because she said it felt like her “natural habitat” and that she belongs there
•Rockefeller Plaza
•FAO Schwarz
•St. Patrick’s Cathedral tour (where an amazing choir was singing)
•Grand Central Station
•Dinner at Grand Central Oyster Bar
•Dessert (famous frozen hot chocolate) at Serendipity 3
•Paige became BFFs with the handbag vendors on Broadway
It was another good day.
As some background to this trip, Dad and Shari wanted to do something special for “the kids” before it’s too late. Shari took her boys somewhere, Dad took Joe and Shawn to Vegas, Shari will take her daughters-in-law on a special trip, and Dad took us here. I’m so thankful we did this. Paige and I never got to do this with our mom. Life is short and precious. People get busy, but take the time to make the memories.
